Another gun shooting and no bread for the sacrament

So my week has been pretty good! It's strange to think that this is only my second week here! It feels like we've been here for quite a while but it's only the second week! ah!

So this week has actually been quite good, a lot more settled into the area and already building a strong relationship with members which is good!

We've been seeing a lot of the members and getting to know them
The funniest thing is that there is this one family, the Kizers (they are the only one of two white families here)

And he is the second counselor and the son is in young men and stuff. Now they don't look like they take a real active role, but they really do and it is great to see.
Anyway they are super nice and it was great to meet with them. We are going to try and work with the son a bit more, he came home from his mission last year and is in college, he served in Durban and has loads of good ideas for us to try which we are hoping for.

The work here is moving, albeit a little slow! The main problem, with the area and the fact we are in a car is that it is harder for us to find people to teach, so we are trying to get more involved with the members, it's working!

The best thing though is that when we go to complexes there are always security guards, and they are normally the first people that we try and teach, because if you get friends with them (especially on the lower grade security) then they let you in!
So we are actually teaching 2 security guards from complexes!

The most exciting thing this week in terms of investigators was actually 3 fold. Sister Inga, Sister Jane and Tandai and Fortune are 3 people that we teach, and we each had the lesson on the restoration with them, and it went really really well!. The spirit was there strong and we had a great time teaching them, so hopefully things will go well with them in the future!

The members really need to help us there but they are always at work :/ so we will see what we can do! We might organize a chapel tour for them! The biggest frustration with many people is that they don't do ANYTHING on a Sunday. They just sit, they don't even go to church!
It's something I've actually seen that I've been very grateful for growing up in my family, it's the Sabbath Day observance. No excuses just do it. It's something I'm really coming to appreciate that my parents did for me when I was younger.

On Wednesday we also had exchanges with Elder Di Ruscio, our Zone Leader, he came with both of us, he's from Italy from a town called Pisa (yes the town that has the leaning tower... the leaning tower of Pisa) yeah he's from there! He's a super cool guy and we got along really well!

We also tried something to try and get more investigators, we went to the local paper and inquired about getting an advert for the Finding Faith in Christ DVD, (we were told it was free...) turns out it was going to actually be about 25 to 50 pound! For 1 issue! We abandoned that real quick, but we left the DVD with them and inquired about how to publish and article... so that is an idea, the question is, what to publish?!

We also helped someone move house this week. It was from Kempton Park's area, and so it was a good sight having two cars pull into their yard and 4 strong young men get out!
The family were actually really nice! I think the father and son are members but I'm not sure about the mother and daughter. The poor mother got a little stressed towards the end, but thankfully as missionaries, you are never in the firing line!

Another funny instance was this little kid of a member, his name is Tuso Mooto. We were having a lesson with the family and he was just being so funny! Saying the funniest of things! I will have to write down what he said!
The other thing related to that was that there was fast and testimony meeting, and I was the first one from the congregation to bear my testimony! It was very good! But then a lot of the primary kids bore their testimony, one of them said "You need to love your family, you need to love your men, you need to love your women" We all laughed a little bit!

That wasn't the best thing, at church though, the best thing was that none of the young men were there early, so we prepared the sacrament. Then it gets to sacrament, we start singing the hymn, the priest pull back the cloth and.... nothing! ha ha ha, there was no bread!!!

All credit to the bishopric dealt with it really well. They announced to sing a different hymn and one of the counselors went out straight away and luckily there is a garage right next to the chapel, so he was able to buy some more bread! and so it went okay. I've never seen it happen before but it was very funny! I'm glad it wasn't me! We're going to make a plan to prevent it happening in the future because I think it might!

Another thing was that we were visiting a member and they told us of how they were in Kempton Park that morning (the next area) and six guys came out of nowhere and attacked some G4S security guys who were unloading money. They shot twice and killed one of them! In the middle of the street and took the money. The police and ambulance didn't come for an HOUR! Apparently no one called them! fun fun fun :P

One of the big things is that a week on Thursday our ward mission leader is getting sealed in the temple to his wife, and he want's us to come! So we are going to get permission and I'm looking forward to it, I'm interested to see what happens!

I miss 'Western Food' like sausage pasta. Here it seems to be the same of the same thing. Either Pap or rice, and then usually chicken. Although I will admit, the people here can usually make a really nice sauce or chakalaka (kinda like a sauce with baked beans) and you eat the pap with it, and it's actually really really nice. So it's not so bad here, as long as they don't feed us phuto!

Still trying my best!

Love

Jack!
